Everyone has a garden story. I’d love to tell yours.
Gardening with Doug
#30 Kids Corner, native plants, planting beans, a great hydrangea and getting ready for summer storms.
This week I'm visiting the Kid's Corner garden in Ligonier, where parents and their children work together weekly in a community garden. I'm also showing off a hydrangea that's a reliable bloomer and supports breast cancer research. There are three, cool native plants to discuss and Rob Kruljac from Davey Tree gets us ready for the storm season.
Video tour of “Under The Sea” at Phipps
This week Jordyn Melino from Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens gives us a special tour of "Under The Sea," the theme of this year's Summer Flower Show. Check out another cool plant that "You Should Grow," a garden question about shrubs and Rob Kruljac from Davey Tree tells us all about spotted lanternfly.
Cooking with weeds on PTL!
I used a recipe from my wife’s late grandmother, who immigrated from Italy to make an omelet with dandelions. They are one of the most nutritious plants in the world. I also made a garlic mustard pesto and both dishes went over pretty well with Heather and David.
Meet an amazing young gardener planting a community garden in Duquesne.
This week I'm working with the team from Farm to Table Buy Fresh Buy local to plant a community garden at Orchard Park in Duquesne. We meet an amazing young gardener too. I'm answering a question about how to plant zinnias, do some important harvesting on garlic and then feature the 22nd Annual Doug Oster Plant Swap and Garden Hullabaloo.
Damn Deer!
My heart sank as I walked through the gate of my vegetable garden after being gone for 12 days. Deer had broken through the fence and left the garden in ruins, as if a gang of angry teenagers from an apocalyptic movie had ravaged the area. Tomato cages were toppled, hosta leaves were gone, beloved lilies were beheaded, and hydrangeas were stripped of their foliage.
The story of the ‘Limbaugh Legacy Potato Top’ tomato
The 'Limbaugh Legacy Potato Top' tomato is big, meaty, pink with an old-fashioned flavor.
