For over a decade I’ve wanted to make Helleborus niger (Christmas or Winter Rose) available to gardeners.
This evergreen perennial returns year after year and begins to bloom in late November, continuing through the winter.
It’s amazing to have those blooms when the rest of the garden is winding down.
The problem is, the plant is usually only sold as a holiday plant, meant to be discarded after a few weeks on the windowsill.
Savvy gardeners buy them after the holidays and either grow them inside or in a greenhouse for the winter, planting them in the spring.
I’ve created a one day event at Soergel’s Garden Center to offer the plant for $10 each.
I’ll have them there on Sunday April 19th, 2026 at 1 p.m.
One plant per family please.
This is the only day and time the plants will be availble, please don’t call Soergel’s trying to get the plant before that day.
If there are some left, I’ll let people know and you can go buy some of the plants after the event.
It’s also National Garlic Day that Sunday and I’ll be serving a homemade, surprise garlic dish to everyone who attends.
Soergel’s is located at 2573 Brandt School Rd, Wexford, PA 15090.
